What It Really Takes to Go Viral on LinkedIn.

Views are great, but they won’t grow your audience or influence.

I used to obsess over vanity metrics on LinkedIn—freaking out if my post didn’t hit a certain number of views.

I’d ask myself things like, “Am I missing some hidden LinkedIn hack? Should I be posting at 9:07 AM exactly?”

But then I had a breakthrough moment.

A short post I wrote about a frustrating job hunt only got about 800 impressions, but five people reached out to say it helped them feel less alone.

That feeling was so much better than hitting 10k views with zero real conversations.

What Changed?

I realized LinkedIn is about actual people, not just numbers.

When I switched from “How do I go viral?” to “How can I spark genuine dialogue?” everything clicked.

Suddenly, I saw thoughtful comments, folks tagging each other, and even DMs saying, “Hey, this resonated with me—can we chat?”

Before You Post:

  • Ask “What’s My Goal?” Do you want to educate, inspire, or just share a personal story?

  • Know Your Audience. Are they new grads, mid-career pros, or aspiring entrepreneurs?

  • Pinpoint the Pain Point. What’s the specific challenge you’re helping them tackle?

Answer these questions honestly.

If you don’t know why you’re posting or who you’re hoping to connect with, no amount of perfect formatting or fancy emojis will save the day.

Why This Approach Works:

  1. You’ll attract the right people: They’ll comment, tag friends, and DM you.

  2. The algorithm rewards meaningful engagement: More comments = more reach.

Bottom Line: LinkedIn is about building real relationships. So write like a person talking to another person. Show up with a genuine purpose, and watch your network flourish.
