The Top Performing Posts on LinkedIn

I’d categorize these into 3 distinct categories: A learning resource, accomplishment/win, or a lesson learned. Here’s more details into the three below.

Resource: These are the most straightforward, typically resource posts are sharing a recent course you took, study material you used to pass a cert, books, or any other learning recommendation. These posts are meant to share what resources you used to get to XYZ point, typically in career or personal growth. Resource posts are also often the most shareable! This means more people are likely to repost with their connections, which creates a lot more engagement and positive performance for the post. One of my favorite types of posts since it can be helpful to a broader audience!

Accomplishment: Anything related to getting a new job, learning a new skill, passing a cert exam, these are all great accomplishments to post about! Even smaller career changes like taking a sabbatical, switching from contractor to full-time, or taking a step back in your career - these are also great topics to talk about since many people will go through something similar in their career. Accomplishment posts are typically ones that generate lots of direct engagement from your immediate network and a great way to keep them up with what’s new in your world, professional or otherwise.

Lesson: Sometimes, writing lesson posts can be a bit harder, this is because you’re likely writing about a problem you faced, struggles like burnout, or just sharing your learnings from an overall negative or neutral experience. There is a lot of vulnerability that is needed for posts that share bad news more than anything. But sometimes even lessons like the biggest mistake you made in your early career or sharing why you made a career pivot into another role are all great lessons that you can share with your network.

I recommend creating a mix of posts on a weekly basis without overdoing it. The post styles and types are really all up to you! Everyone has their own voice and writing style, and you’ll get better over time as you share more with your audience.

One of the best feelings is seeing recurring commenters who also share their stories and perspectives, since that’s really what we’re all trying to do: make connections and share our stories.

Wishing you all the best! Stay healthy and happy.

Best, Sandra
